Assignment

A good discussion thrives on open exchange. Especially when dealing with ethics and morality, it’s essential to explore different courses of action systematically and to present your reasoning clearly and in a way that can be critically assessed.

Please reconstruct several arguments using the model you have learned. Each argument should include both descriptive and normative premises. Write your reconstructions down so you can share them with your fellow students. Post your arguments in the discussion forum and respond to at least two contributions by others.

Before writing your own post, take a moment to review what makes a good comment and what matters when participating in the forum.

Crriteria

  1. Titel: Choose a title that highlights the relevance of your post. It may be creative, but clarity and relevance come first.
  2. Present your argumments: Our argument is the starting point of the discussion. What would a convincing weighing of different views look like?
  3. Justify your position: Make sure your argument is both precise and well-founded. What assumptions are you making? Are there logical gaps or fallacies? Can your truth claims be defended?
  4. Conclusion: You may wish to summarise your main points, weigh priorities, and/or offer a reflective and well-argued judgment.

Formalities

  • Check your spelling, grammar, and punctuation before submitting.
  • Write your post in continuous prose (not in bullet points).
  • Your contribution should be about 500–1,000 characters (including spaces).
  • Your comments on other posts should each be around 250–400 characters (including spaces).

Forum Guidelines

  • Always remain respectful and keep the discussion focused on the issue at hand.
  • When commenting on others’ posts, respond to their viewpoint thoughtfully and constructively.
